Freddie Freeman is a fantasy building block. He’s young, in a great line up, and in a great ballpark. He’s really interchangeable with Goldschmidt for me.

Cody Bellinger burst on the scene in 2017 but he took a substantial step back last season. He’s still young though and I think he’ll have more seasons like his rookie year.

Matt Carpenter can be a very streaky player at times but he’s got great on base skills and the power to go with it. He should hit lead off for the Cardinals so he’ll score plenty of runs with Goldschmidt and Marcell Ozuna behind him.

Jose Abreu had been the model of consistency in the big league career until last season. He struggled with a low BABIP and didn’t hit the ball as hard as he has throughout his career but I don’t think he’s done. He’s just not the bankable first baseman anymore.

I’m a huge Joey Gallo fan and always have been. He’s got light tower power but record strike out rates. The reason I’m in love with Gallo is his prospect pedigree and his reputation for making adjustments. I just think it’s all going to come together some day.

Eric Hosmer is boring but he’s not as bad as people make him out to be. He’s just not the flashy pick you can tell your friends you made.

Rowdy Tellez has an awesome name and it fits him perfectly. Google a picture of him you won’t regret it.

That’ll wrap up first base week at KMill Sports Insights. I’m drafting an NFBC Online Championship team tomorrow with my editor and I’ll have a recap blog detailing how I thought we did.
