Rise and Grind Daily Fantasy: 7/2/19

Each weekday morning I’m previewing the DFS slate for the day. I’ll give my picks to click each day so you can cash. There are many things to consider before lineups lock. You’ll want to make sure each player is actually in the lineup that day so it’s important to check a couple hours before game time. I’ll try and get the Rise and Grind post updated each day as lineups come out. The other thing to seriously consider is the weather. It’s imperative to follow Kevin Roth (@KevinRothWx) on Twitter or at Roto Grinders.  He gives great updates on the weather each and every day. Again, this blog will be updated throughout the day as lineups and weather forecasts come out. For simplicity, I’ll be using DraftKings prices when I reference a player’s cost.

Yesterday’s Results

The below lineup scored 163.5 points which was good enough to cash and finish 13th out of 919 in my contest. The two pitchers flopped but Josh Bell and Eugenio Suárez carried the team. Bell had 55 points while Suárez had 35. Yelich (23) and Austin (17) also had good nights.

P- Williams $8,100 P- Yarbrough $6,500 C- Zunino $2,700 1B- Bell $5,300 2B- Moustakas $5,000 3B- Suárez $4,000 SS- Machado $5,100 OF- Yelich $5,900 OF- Schwarber $3,900 OF- Austin $3,500

My DFS strategy involves picking at least one of the top 5 pitchers for each slate. Pitchers score more points and are more consistent on a day-to-day basis than hitters. Even the best hitters can go hitless on a given day. It’s also important to check the Vegas lines to see which team is favored to win. Wins and innings pitched are the most important parts of DFS.

  • Trevor Bauer $11,600

  • Patrick Corbin $11,100

  • Aaron Nola $10,700

  • Charlie Morton $10,600

  • Mike Minor $19,500

  • Matt Boyd $10,100

  • Jake Odorizzi $9,900

  • Zack Wheeler $9,500

  • David Price $9,300

  • Kyle Hendricks $9,000

  • James Paxton $8,900

  • German Márquez $8,700

  • Jose Suárez $8,500

  • Tanner Roark $8,500

  • Dallas Keuchel $8,100

  • Zac Gallen $7,900

  • Ross Stripling $7,800

  • Jack Flaherty $7,600

  • Trent Thornton $7,500

  • Jakob Junis $7,300

  • Daniel Mengden $7,100

  • Matt Strahm $6,900

  • Taylor Clarke $6,400

  • Tyler Beede $6,200

  • Joe Musgrove $5,900

  • Wade LeBlanc $5,800

  • Reynaldo López $5,600

  • Jose Urquidy $5,500

  • Chase Anderson $5,300

We have a massive premium tier today but only one correct choice. That’ll be Charlie Morton against the woeful Orioles. I wouldn’t blame you for picking Wheeler but I like Morton much more. Really stay away from Minor, Nola, and Hendricks.

James Paxton is one of the top options for much second pitcher but I prefer Jack Flaherty from this tier. He’s cheaper and shouldn’t score that much less. Avoid Suárez, Roark, Gallen, and Junis at all costs.

Strahm is a good choice from the Bargain Bin but López has massive value tonight. I’ll be using him as my second pitcher.

Lineup placement. That’s the Holy Grail for me when it comes to hitters in DFS. You want hitters that are batting in the top half of the order so they get more chances to score points. The score projections used come from SabreSim’s free tool that can be found on Fangraphs.
