Rise and Grind Daily Fantasy: 6/26/19

Each weekday morning I’m previewing the DFS slate for the day. I’ll give my picks to click each day so you can cash. There are many things to consider before lineups lock. You’ll want to make sure each player is actually in the lineup that day so it’s important to check a couple hours before game time. I’ll try and get the Rise and Grind post updated each day as lineups come out. The other thing to seriously consider is the weather. It’s imperative to follow Kevin Roth (@KevinRothWx) on Twitter or at Roto Grinders.  He gives great updates on the weather each and every day. Again, this blog will be updated throughout the day as lineups and weather forecasts come out. For simplicity, I’ll be using DraftKings prices when I reference a player’s cost.

Yesterday’s Results

The below lineup scored 122.30 points which was good enough to cash. Scherzer and Bumgarner combined for 68.3 points which is exactly what you want when using two higher priced guys. Only Canó and Hernández scored double digit points among hitters.

P- Scherzer $12,400 P- Bumgarner $8,200 C- Jansen $2,100 1B- Goldschmidt $3,800 2B- Canó $3,200 3B- Guerrero Jr $3,200 SS- Báez $5,000 OF- Bryant $4,900 OF- Hernández $3,700 OF- Grichuk $3,400

Day Slate: 6 Games

My DFS strategy involves picking at least one of the top 5 pitchers for each slate. Pitchers score more points and are more consistent on a day-to-day basis than hitters. Even the best hitters can go hitless on a given day. It’s also important to check the Vegas lines to see which team is favored to win. Wins and innings pitched are the most important parts of DFS.

  • Chris Sale $11,600

  • Trevor Bauer $10,600

  • German Márquez $10,000

  • James Paxton $9,000

  • Dylan Bundy $8,100

  • Trent Thornton $7,400

  • Tony Gonsolin $6,800

  • Jake Junis $6,600

  • Jeff Samardzija $6,400

  • Matt Strahm $6,000

  • Reynaldo López $5,500

  • Taylor Clarke $5,000

I’m using Sale and Paxton for this slate. The only other pitcher I even considered was Clarke.

Samardzija, Strahm, Márquez, and Bauer are fine picks they just don’t have a lot of value.

Lineup placement. That’s the Holy Grail for me when it comes to hitters in DFS. You want hitters that are batting in the top half of the order so they get more chances to score points. The score projections used come from SabreSim’s free tool that can be found on Fangraphs.

  • Gary Sanchez, C $5,100

  • Aaron Judge, OF $4,200

  • J.D. Martinez, OF $5,000

  • Manny Machado, 3B/SS $5,200

  • Hunter Renfroe, OF $5,200

  • Aaron Judge, OF $4,200

  • Didi Gregorius, SS $3,500

  • Will Smith, C $2,700

  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr, 3B $3,300

  • Franmil Reyes, OF $3,900

My Lineup

P- Sale $11,600 P- Paxton $9,000 C- Smith $2,700 1B- Duda $3,000 2B- López $3,200 3B- Ramirez $4,000 SS- Gregorius $3,500 OF- Martinez $5,000 OF- Judge $4,200 OF- Myers $3,800

Night Slate: 9 Games

  • Mike Minor $11,000

  • Patrick Corbin $10,600

  • Charlie Morton $10,200

  • Matt Boyd $10,000

  • Jake Odorizzi $9,500

  • Dallas Keuchel $8,000

  • Tanner Roark $7,900

  • Yu Darvish $7,600

  • Nick Pivetta $7,300

  • Zac Gallen $7,100

  • Adam Wainwright $7,000

  • Framber Valdez $6,900

  • Jaime Barria $6,900

  • Dainel Mengden $6,900

  • Jason Vargas $6,600

  • Wade LeBlanc $5,800

  • Adrian Houser $5,700

  • Dario Agrazal $5,300

Things aren’t nearly as simple for the night slate as they were for the day one. Nearly all of these pitchers have similar values so I think it pays to use some less expensive guys. If you want to use Corbin or Boyd, I don’t blame you. Don’t use Minor, Morton, or Odorizzi though.

I’m also not using Keuchel or Roark tonight. I’m going to be using Gallen tonight for sure but Darvish, Pivetta, and Wainwright all got consideration.

My second pitcher is going to be Houser. I really like the way he’s been throwing the ball. He’s the only Bargain Bin pitcher I’d use tonight though.

  • Christian Yelich, OF $5,900

  • Mike Trout, OF $5,800

  • Pete Alonso, 1B $5,400

  • Mike Moustakas, 2B/3B $5,300

  • Ronald Acuña Jr, OF $4,700

  • John Hicks, 1B/C $2,100

  • Robinson Canó, 2B $3,000

  • Travis Shaw, 3B $3,000

  • Eugenio Suarez, 3B $3,700

  • Paul Goldschmidt, 1B $4,000

My Lineup

P- Gallen $7,100 P- Houser $5,700 C- Realmuto $4,000 1B- Hoskins $4,700 2B- Canó $3,000 3B- Suárez $3,700 SS- Bregman $4,900 OF- Yelich $5,900 OF- Trout $5,800 OF- Acuña Jr $4,700
