Each weekday morning I’m previewing the DFS slate for the day. I’ll give my picks to click each day so you can cash. There are many things to consider before lineups lock. You’ll want to make sure each player is actually in the lineup that day so it’s important to check a couple hours before game time. I’ll try and get the Rise and Grind post updated each day as lineups come out. The other thing to seriously consider is the weather. It’s imperative to follow Kevin Roth (@KevinRothWx) on Twitter or at Roto Grinders.  He gives great updates on the weather each and every day. Again, this blog will be updated throughout the day as lineups and weather forecasts come out. For simplicity, I’ll be using DraftKings prices when I reference a player’s cost.

Yesterday’s Results

The below lineup scored 60.95 points… it’s been that kind of week.

Pitchers

My DFS strategy involves picking at least one of the top 5 pitchers for each slate. Pitchers score more points and are more consistent on a day-to-day basis than hitters. Even the best hitters can go hitless on a given day. It’s also important to check the Vegas lines to see which team is favored to win. Wins and innings pitched are the most important parts of DFS.

PREMIUM OPTIONS:

  • Patrick Corbin $11,200

  • Chris Sale $10,800

  • Kenta Maeda $10,300

  • Brad Peacock $9,900

  • Caleb Smith $9,700

  • German Márquez $9,500

  • José Berríos $9,300

  • Trevor Bauer $9,200

  • Joey Lucchesi $8,800

  • Jake Arrieta $8,600

  • Mike Foltynewicz $8,500

  • Tyler Skaggs $8,400

  • Spencer Turnbull $8,100

  • Jon Duplantier $7,900

  • Mike Fiers $7,700

  • Jalen Beeks $7,600

  • J.A. Happ $7,400

  • Chris Archer $7,400

  • Danny Duffy $7,200

  • Yu Darvish $7,000

BARGAIN BIN OPTIONS:

  • Andrew Cashner $6,600

  • Miles Mikolas $6,500

  • Tyler Mahle $6,200

  • Drew Pomeranz $6,000

  • Mike Leake $5,900

  • Jhoulys Chacin $5,300

  • Edwin Jackson $5,200

  • Ariel Jurado $4,900

  • Dylan Covey $4,600

A full 15 game slate gives us lots of options to choose from for pitching. I’ll start by ignoring the entire premium tier besides one. They’re all either priced correctly or a little bit too high. The one that stands out is Trevor Bauer. He’s been rough in his last few starts but he gets the White Sox today and should have a good day. He’ll likely be one of my pitchers.

Jake Arrieta is one of the biggest stack targets on the slate yet he’s got a crazy price tag. Folty and Skaggs aren’t bad picks but I like some better value options. Duffy and Darvish has quite a bit of value but I’m still avoiding the latter.

Mikolas and Pomeranz have huge value from the Bargain Bin tonight. I think I’m going to use Pomeranz. I also like Leake, Chacin, and Jurado a bit. Edwin Jackson is the most obvious stack of all time. If you’re in cash games it’s good to use Rockies but they’ll be heavily owned in GPP.

Hitters

Lineup placement. That’s the Holy Grail for me when it comes to hitters in DFS. You want hitters that are batting in the top half of the order so they get more chances to score points. The score projections used come from SabreSim’s free tool that can be found on Fangraphs.

 HIGHEST SCORERS:

  • Trevor Story, SS $5,800

  • Nolan Arenado, 3B $5,900

  • Christian Yelich, OF $5,900

  • Mike Trout, OF $5,700

  • J.D. Martinez, OF $4,700

5 VALUE PLAYS:

  • Shohei Ohtani, OF $3,00

  • Danny Jansen, C $2,200

  • Tyler White, 1B $2,500

  • Brandon Crawford, SS $3,100

  • Jeimer Candelario, 3B $2,700

My Lineup

P- Bauer $9,200 P- Pomeranz $6,000 C- Grenier $2,400 1B- Belt $4,100 2B- Nuñez $3,100 3B- Arenado $5,900 SS- Story $5,800 OF- Betts $4,900 OF- Dahl $4,700 OF- Ohtani $3,800

I’m not a professional baseball bettor but I’ve found some success so far this season using weather and DFS models to cap games. These picks are all risking half units unless otherwise specified. You can follow my bets on the Action Network App using this link.
