Each weekday morning I’ll be previewing the DFS slate for the day. I’ll give my picks to click each day so you can cash. When playing DFS there are many things to consider before lineups lock. You’ll want to make sure each player is actually in the lineup that day so it’s important to check a couple hours before game time. I’ll try and get the Rise and Grind post updated each day as lineups come out. The other thing to seriously consider is the weather. It’s imperative to follow Kevin Roth (@KevinRothWx) on Twitter or at Roto Grinders.  He gives great updates on the weather each and every day. Again, this blog will be updated throughout the day as lineups and weather forecasts come out. For simplicity, I’ll be using DraftKings prices when I reference a player’s cost.

 Early Slate: 5 Games

Pitchers

My DFS strategy involves picking at least one of the top 5 pitchers for each slate. Pitchers score more points and are more consistent on a day-to-day basis than hitters. Even the best hitters can go hitless on a given day. It’s also important to check the Vegas lines to see which team is favored to win. Wins and innings pitched are the most important parts of DFS.

Premium options:

  • Corey Kluber $10,900

  • Aaron Nola $10,200

  • German Marquez $9,900

Medium CosT options:

  • Charlie Morton $8,800

  • Luis Castillo $8,100

  • Freddy Peralta $7,500

  • Carlos Rodon $7,000

Bargain Bin options:

  • Kyle Gibson $6,300

  • Aaron Sanchez $5,900

  • Homer Bailey $4,000

Not a ton of value pitching value in the early slate today. Kluber is the top option and should be safe for >20 points. Morton, Castillo, and Sanchez have a little value but I’m not touching the later against the Phillies. Kyle Gibson is worth a shot against the Royals and the ghost of Homer Bailey ($4,000 😂).

 Hitters

Lineup placement. That’s the Holy Grail for me when it comes to hitters in DFS. You want hitters that are batting in the top half of the order so they get more chances to score points. The score projections used come from SabreSim’s free tool that can be found on Fangraphs.

 Highest Scorers:

  • Christian Yellich, OF $5,500

  • Travis Shaw, 3B $4,300

  • Joey Votto, 1B $4,000

  • Ryan Braun, OF $4,500

  • Rhys Hoskins, 1B $4,900

5 VAlue plays:

  • Andrew McCutchen, OF $4,200

  • Joey Votto, 1B $4,000

  • Austin Meadows, OF $3,900

  • Travis Shaw, 3B $4,300

  • Jean Segura, SS $4,200

Lineup Updates

McCutchen in his normal leadoff spot has great value today. The same goes for Austin Meadows. Ji-Man Choi is in the three spot against German Marquez and is only $3,500. Ben Gamel is a sneaky play against the Reds in GABP as he’s leading off as well. If you’re feeling risky and want fade the top pitcher on the slate, Leury Garcia and Yoan Moncada are batting 1-2 for the Sox and have some value. Jesse Winker is a great value at the top of the order against Freddy Peralta.

Main Slate: 5 Games

Pitchers

Premium options:

  • Gerrit Cole $11,400

  • Ross Stripling $10,200

  • Nathan Eovaldi $9,000

Medium CosT options:

  • Jameson Taillon $7,900

  • Jon Lester $7,500

  • Miles Mikolas $7,200

  • Julio Teheran $7,000

Bargain Bin options:

  • Derek Holland $5,700

  • Marco Estrada $5,200

  • Mike Minor $4,200

I love Jameson Taillon tonight against the strikeout prone Cardinals. They’ve struck out at least 10 times in each game this year including 15 and 17 in their last two games. Miles Mikolas being cheaper than Jon Lester is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen, especially considering the matchups. I’d avoid the Cubs/Braves game entirely for pitchers as the Vegas total is 9 currently. Cole and Stripling are both good plays but they don’t have much value. It’s okay to pay market price for aces and find value in your hitters.

 Hitters

 Highest Scorers:

  • Alex Bregman, 3B $5,400

  • Ronald Acuña Jr., OF $4,800

  • Josh Donaldson, 3B $4,600

  • Ozzie Albies, 2B $4,300

  • George Springer, OF $4,900

5 VAlue plays:

  • Ronald Acuña Jr., OF $4,800

  • Freddie Freeman, 1B $4,600

  • Ozzie Albies, 2B $4,300

  • Tyler Flowers, C $3,500

  • Nomar Mazara, OF $3,800

Lineup Updates

SabreSim loves Braves hitters against Lester today and I think there’s is plenty of value in them. The Red Sox have to break out at some point right? Who better to do it against the Marco Estrada. Francisco Cervelli is hitting 3rd tonight for $3,800. I’m on Tyler Flowers tonight even though he’s batting 7th. Ben Zobrist and Adam Frazier both provide value at 2B out of the lead off spot tonight. Ozzie Albies is leading off tonight against a lefty and he’s a must own IMO. Elvis Andrus is hitting 3rd but it’s not a great matchup with Gerrit Cole. The same applies for Shin-Soo Choo although I am more interested in him. Stephen Duggar should be leading off against Ross Stripling tonight and only costs $3,200.
