Each weekday morning I’m previewing the DFS slate for the day. I’ll give my picks to click each day so you can cash. When playing DFS there are many things to consider before lineups lock. You’ll want to make sure each player is actually in the lineup that day so it’s important to check a couple hours before game time. I’ll try and get the Rise and Grind post updated each day as lineups come out. The other thing to seriously consider is the weather. It’s imperative to follow Kevin Roth (@KevinRothWx) on Twitter or at Roto Grinders.  He gives great updates on the weather each and every day. Again, this blog will be updated throughout the day as lineups and weather forecasts come out. For simplicity, I’ll be using DraftKings prices when I reference a player’s cost.

Pitchers

My DFS strategy involves picking at least one of the top 5 pitchers for each slate. Pitchers score more points and are more consistent on a day-to-day basis than hitters. Even the best hitters can go hitless on a given day. It’s also important to check the Vegas lines to see which team is favored to win. Wins and innings pitched are the most important parts of DFS.

Premium options:

  • Trevor Bauer $10,400

  • Noah Syndergaard $10,000

  • Clayton Kershaw $9,800

  • Aaron Nola $9,600

  • Luis Castillo $9,500

  • Joey Lucchesi $9,000

Medium CosT options:

  • Freddy Peralta $8,800

  • Trevor Richards $8,200

  • Matt Shoemaker $8,000

  • Yu Darvish $7,800

  • Yusei Kikuchi $7,700

  • Trevor Cahill $7,100

Bargain Bin options:

  • Shelby Miller $6,500

  • Martin Perez $6,400

  • Dakota Hudson $6,200

  • Ervin Santana $5,300

  • Heath Fillmyer $5,000

Trevor Bauer is the highest priced pitcher on the slate today and he’s got some value at his price. I’d lay off Noah Syndergaard, Clayton Kershaw, and Luis Castillo tonight. Aaron Nola is my pick from the premium options tonight. I don’t mind Joey Lucchesi tonight against the bad Rockies lineup.

I’m really not looking to play Freddy Peralta tonight against St. Louis in Miller Park. I actually do like Trevor Richards against the Cubs in Miami. My pitcher picks for the night are Yu Darvish and Yusei Kikuchi. They both have a ton of value tonight in their matchups.

Martin Perez, Ervin Santana, and Heath Fillmyer all have value but it’s very risky move to play them tonight when there are so many other good options.

 Hitters

Lineup placement. That’s the Holy Grail for me when it comes to hitters in DFS. You want hitters that are batting in the top half of the order so they get more chances to score points. The score projections used come from SabreSim’s free tool that can be found on Fangraphs.

 Highest Scorers:

  • Christian Yelich, OF $5,400

  • Adalberto Mondesi, SS $5,100

  • Joey Gallo, OF $4,900

  • Whit Merrifield, 2B/OF $4,600

  • Justin Bour, 1B $4,000

5 VAlue plays:

  • Justin Bour, 1B $4,000

  • Kole Calhoun, OF $3,800

  • A.J. Pollack, OF $3,500

  • Jose Ramirez, 3B $3,900

  • Travis Shaw, 1B/3B $3,900

Lineup Updates

Since I’m seeing a lot of value on the cheaper pitching options today, I’ll have some pricier hitters with juicy matchups.

I’m using Yadi Molina ($3,400) tonight in Miller Park. I really don’t believe in Freddy Peralta and Molina is batting 5th. In a rarity, a pair of catchers are actually leading off tonight. Both Mitch Garver ($4,000) and Curt Casali ($3,200) are topping the lineup and both have alright value.

Paul Goldschmidt ($4,300) is off to a bit of a slow start at the plate but he’s in Miller Park and facing a questionable pitcher. Albert Pujols ($3,600) is a great value play tonight. He’s batting cleanup against Shelby Miller in Texas. Travis Shaw ($3,900) and C.J. Cron ($3,600) both have some value as well.

Ben Zobrist ($3,600) is leading off tonight against the sneaky good Trevor Richards. I’m using Mike Moustakas ($4,300) tonight against Dakota Hudson. I really don’t like what he’s doing so far this year so give me the lefty hitting cleanup. Robinson Cano ($3,500) is hitting 3rd albeit against Aaron Nola.

I’m going back to the well with the STL/MIL game and using Matt Carpenter ($3,800). Kris Bryant ($4,000), Justin Turner ($3,900), and Manny Machado ($4,300) all have good value tonight in their matchups.

I’m a fan of both Cory Seager ($4,000) and Andrelton Simmons ($3,900) tonight. Seager should be batting 2nd while Simmons is in the 3 hole. Elvis Andrus ($4,200) also has good value tonight.

Kole Calhoun ($3,800), Danny Santana ($3,500), and A.J. Pollack ($3,500) are all valuable tonight hitting in the top two lineup spots if you want to go cheaper in the OF. I’m using Trout ($5,600), Gallo ($4,900), and Mazara ($4,200) tonight since I saved some money on my pitching. Brandon Nimmo ($3,600) is also leading off for the Mets. Yasiel Puig ($3,600) is making his return to LA tonight and facing lefty Clayton Kershaw. That’s a very intriguing matchup. Matt Kemp ($3,300) will also be back in LA and hitting right behind Puig. Tyler O’Neil ($4,000) crushes fastballs and is facing a pitcher that throws a ton of them.

My Lineup

P- Darvish $7,800 P- Kikuchi $7,700 C- Molina $3,400 1B- Goldschmidt $4,300 2B- Moustakas $4,300 3B- Carpenter $3,800 SS- Seager $4,000 OF- Trout $5,600 OF- Gallo $4,900 OF- Mazara $4,200
