Rise and Grind Daily Fantasy: 4/12/19

Each weekday morning I’m previewing the DFS slate for the day. I’ll give my picks to click each day so you can cash. When playing DFS there are many things to consider before lineups lock. You’ll want to make sure each player is actually in the lineup that day so it’s important to check a couple hours before game time. I’ll try and get the Rise and Grind post updated each day as lineups come out. The other thing to seriously consider is the weather. It’s imperative to follow Kevin Roth (@KevinRothWx) on Twitter or at Roto Grinders.  He gives great updates on the weather each and every day. Again, this blog will be updated throughout the day as lineups and weather forecasts come out. For simplicity, I’ll be using DraftKings prices when I reference a player’s cost.

Main Slate: 12 Games

My DFS strategy involves picking at least one of the top 5 pitchers for each slate. Pitchers score more points and are more consistent on a day-to-day basis than hitters. Even the best hitters can go hitless on a given day. It’s also important to check the Vegas lines to see which team is favored to win. Wins and innings pitched are the most important parts of DFS.

Premium options:

  • Carlos Carrasco $11,000

  • Patrick Corbin $10,100

  • Chris Paddack $9,700

  • J.A. Happ $9,200

  • Eduardo Rodriguez $9,000

Medium CosT options:

  • Jake Arrieta $8,800

  • Julio Urias $8,700

  • Corbin Burnes $8,500

  • Zack Wheeler $8,400

  • Drew Pomeranz $8,100

  • Trevor Williams $8,000

  • Trent Thornton $7,800

  • Mike Fiers $7,600

  • Luke Weaver $7,400

  • Kyle Wright $7,300

  • Sandy Alcantara $7,300

  • Brad Keller $7,100

Bargain Bin options:

  • Wade LeBlanc $6,400

  • Drew Smyly $6,300

  • Chad Bettis $5,800

  • Lucas Giolito $5,500

  • Ryne Stanek $5,000

  • David Hess $4,600

Carlos Carrasco is a must own tonight against the Royals. He’s a stud and underpriced despite being the most expensive arm. Corbin is fine but there are better options today. Paddack continues to be over priced. My love for him is no secret but he’s still not going deep into games. Exact same sentence can be said for Julio Urias. Two of my favorite pitchers in the game, just not for today’s DFS slate. J.A. Happ has solid value today if you want to fade the White Sox. Eduardo Rodriguez is the king of value today. Arrieta, Weaver, Smyly, and Bettis all are worth more than their prices. Drew Pomeranz is finally priced correctly but I’d still roll with him if you wanted to save some money. The Bargain Bin is big trash today. I’m going with Carrasco/ERod or Pomeranz today.

Lineup placement. That’s the Holy Grail for me when it comes to hitters in DFS. You want hitters that are batting in the top half of the order so they get more chances to score points. The score projections used come from SabreSim’s free tool that can be found on Fangraphs.

 Highest Scorers:

  • Khris Davis, OF $4,900

  • Matt Chapman, 3B $4,600

  • Mookie Betts, OF $5,400

  • Pete Alonso, 1B $4,900

  • Joey Gallo, OF $4,900

5 VAlue plays:

  • Rougned Odor, 2B $3,800

  • Jesus Aguilar, 1B $3,500

  • Mike Zunino, C $3,000

  • Brandon Nimmo, OF $3,800

  • J.D. Martinez, OF $5,000

A delay is possible in the CWS/NYY game so keep your eye on that before you play a pitcher. PIT/WAS is the best chance of a PPD. It looks like it’ll play but there may some in-game delays.

Lineup Updates

Catcher is pretty simple for me tonight. I see big value in Mike Zunino ($3,000) even though he’s batting 8th. Other options include James McCann ($3,100) batting 7th against a lefty and Jorge Alfaro ($3,500) only because he’s hitting 5th.

We don’t have a lineup for Milwaukee at the time of this writing but Jesus Aguilar ($3,500) will surely be in the top 5 spots of the lineup against a lefty. He’s off to a slow start but he’s a good hitter. Elsewhere, I like Mitch Moreland ($4,500), Mark Cahna ($4,200), Jose Abreu ($4,100), and Greg Bird ($3,900) all with prime lineup spots and platoon advantages.

Rougned Odor ($3,800) leads the way in value for all hitters tonight in my opinion. I also like Brian Dozier ($3,800), Robinson Cano ($3,700), Garrett Hampson ($3,400), and Pablo Reyes ($3,000) tonight.

My pick tonight at 3B is Evan Longoria ($3,400). He continues to be priced too low. Josh Donaldson ($3,900), Yandy Diaz ($3,800), Jung-Ho Kang ($3,300), and Brian Anderson ($3,200) have prime lineup spots for a low cost.

I’m going with Marcus Semien ($4,200) again tonight at SS. He’s facing a very susceptible lefty and leading off. I also like Corey Seager ($4,000), Amed Rosario ($3,900), and Garrett Hampson ($3,400).

Nomar Mazara ($4,200) is my strongest pick in the OF tonight. I’m also using Andrew Benintendi ($4,600), and Billy McKinney ($3,300). Ryan Braun ($4,100), AJ Pollack ($3,900), Ender Inciarte ($3,700), and Leonys Martin ($3,600) have some sneaky value too. I’ll point out that it’s a good night to pay up for the stud outfielders.
