Rise and Grind Daily Fantasy: 4/10/19

Each weekday morning I’m previewing the DFS slate for the day. I’ll give my picks to click each day so you can cash. When playing DFS there are many things to consider before lineups lock. You’ll want to make sure each player is actually in the lineup that day so it’s important to check a couple hours before game time. I’ll try and get the Rise and Grind post updated each day as lineups come out. The other thing to seriously consider is the weather. It’s imperative to follow Kevin Roth (@KevinRothWx) on Twitter or at Roto Grinders.  He gives great updates on the weather each and every day. Again, this blog will be updated throughout the day as lineups and weather forecasts come out. For simplicity, I’ll be using DraftKings prices when I reference a player’s cost.

 Main Slate: 9 Games

My DFS strategy involves picking at least one of the top 5 pitchers for each slate. Pitchers score more points and are more consistent on a day-to-day basis than hitters. Even the best hitters can go hitless on a given day. It’s also important to check the Vegas lines to see which team is favored to win. Wins and innings pitched are the most important parts of DFS.

Premium options:

  • Noah Syndergaard $10,400

  • Kenta Maeda $10,100

  • James Paxton $9,700

  • Robbie Ray $9,400

  • Jack Flaherty $9,000

Medium CosT options:

  • Collin McHugh $8,800

  • Nick Pivetta $8,500

  • Brandon Woodruff $8,300

  • Frankie Montas $8,100

  • Yusei Kikuchi $8,000

  • Dan Straily $7,500

  • Jake Odorizzi $7,500

  • Yu Darvish $7,400

  • Felix Peña $7,200

  • Lance Lynn $7,000

Bargain Bin options:

  • Jordan Lyles $6,800

  • Jeremy Hellickson $5,500

  • Heath Fillmyer $4,000

About those aces last night… needless to say my deGrom/Nola lineup didn’t cash last night. But we must press on and grind for today’s slate. Syndergaard looks like a fine play as the top option but I’m actually looking in a different direction in that game. Kenta Maeda is a good pitcher but he may not go very deep into the game. I’m all the way off of James Paxton tonight against the Astros. Robbie Ray is one a nice value tonight vs Texas and their lefties.

While I prefer Collin McHugh to Paxton tonight I still don’t be using him. Pivetta has fine value but he’s impossible to trust. I’m skipping Woodruff, Montas, and Kikuchi tonight. Don’t play Dan Straily. Please. Now for my plays of the night: Jake Odorizzi and Yu Darvish. Yes both of these pitchers are coming off of horrible outings but they’re priced to buy today.

The rest of the pitchers aren’t worth the hassle.

Lineup placement. That’s the Holy Grail for me when it comes to hitters in DFS. You want hitters that are batting in the top half of the order so they get more chances to score points. The score projections used come from SabreSim’s free tool that can be found on Fangraphs.

 Highest Scorers:

  • Bryce Harper, OF $5,200

  • Matt Chapman, 3B $4,200

  • Khris Davis, OF $4,900

  • Christian Yelich, OF $5,500

  • Cody Bellinger, 1B/OF $5,400

5 VAlue plays:

  • Chris Davis, 1B $2,000 (😂)

  • Yadier Molina, C $2,900

  • George Springer, OF $3,900

  • Matt Chapman, 3B $4,200

  • Khris Davis, OF $4,900

It’s going to be very cold at Wrigley tonight with winds blowing in at about 20 MPH. This is why I love Darvish so much tonight.

Lineup Updates

I’m using Yadi Molina ($2,800) tonight as he’s batting in his usual 5th spot and is super cheap. I also like Yan Gomes ($3,300) batting 6th.

Yuli Guerriel ($3,400) is cheap considering he’s batting 5th and facing a lefty. I’m on Travis Shaw ($3,700) because I think he has big time value at that price. Unfortunately, Chris Davis ($2,000) isn’t in the lineup tonight.

Jose Altuve ($4,300) has a ton of value tonight batting 2nd against a lefty. The same goes for Whit Merifield ($4,500). I prefer Altuve of the pair. Daniel Descalso ($3,800) is leading off for the Cubs tonight but I don’t like his price in the cold and wind Chicago weather. I actually like Brian Dozier ($3,600) batting second tonight for the Nats.

I’m all about Matt Chapman ($4,300) tonight in Baltimore. Additionally, Chris Owings ($2,900) has nice value hitting 6th against a lefty.

I’m rolling with Jonathan Villar ($4,600) tonight hitting 3rd against Frankie Montas. Adalberto Mondesi ($4,400) also has a similar value hitting 3rd. Corey Seager ($3,700) seems too cheap batting 2nd against St. Louis. If you want to go super cheap Aledmys Diaz ($3,400) is never a bad option against a lefty.

In the OF I’m going with Bryce Harper ($5,200), Aaron Judge ($4,400), and George Springer ($3,900) tonight, love the value with all those guys. Other good options include: Khris Davis ($4,900), David Peralta ($4,400), Michael Conforto ($4,300), Mitch Haniger ($4,300), Andrew McCutchen ($4,100), Joc Pederson ($4,000), Max Kepler ($3,700), Jorge Soler ($3,600), and Brandon Nimmo ($3,400). All have matchups.
